I have 6 slimp3 network mp3 players/streaming units and they are
fantaastic - they are fully open architecture and have some very clever
plugins available. The new model is called a squeezebox and can be bought
in wifi versons - you can see them at www.slimdevices.com

I'll second the slimp3's -- we have two and they are great!

You should also check out the Audiotron from Turtle Beach:

I think they're more suited than the slimp3 to putting two or three in
a rack and sharing them across a whole-house system.
I don't think you can control it out-of-the-box without seeing the
display, but there is a web interface that's kind of klunky, which
means you can write whatever software you want to talk to it. There
are other PC front ends that are easier to use, and I think I've seen
a Crestron software interface module on the web.

Are they wall mountable?
I have an intercom in my living room with RCA outputs and I wish to place
once of these devices underneath.
TIA.

There's also a plugin for HomeSeer for it now and the AT mailing
list has links to all sorts of third party programs for it.

Everything's wall mountable with enough joint compound :)
Go look for yourself.
Given that you want to work it with a remote, you may want it
near your stereo and run a wire to the i'com.
