I was over at PSW recently, and there was some talk of someone outing
"mixerman" on one of the forums. Unfortunately, I couldn't track the
thread down, and am left guessing that ES could perhaps be Eliot
Scheiner (I hope I spelled that correctly), but am content that I am
quite possibly wrong. If there's someone out there that does indeed
know -obviously the OP- feel free to enlighten me via e-mail, and I
swear on a stack of 2" to keep the secret forevermore, or until
someone does out mixerman for good. No secret can last forever, after
all, and I believe Mixerman knows this, but hopes it doesn't come out
'til after they're no longer with us. -kooz

Uh, nope.
I could tell ya, but then I'd have to kill ya, being sworn to secrecy

Well, if he is a real person then he must be well liked and receive quite a
bit of respect for no one to have "out"-ed him.

You can be sure that any outing evidence would quickly be "cleaned up".
They don't take too kindly to that kind of thing there. Mixerman,
Fletcher and the other moderators watch each others backs.

Here, close to a year ago. It wasn't a big deal. I think the reaction
to all but a few was "who's that?" I know his real name but I don't
travel in the circles in which he's famous, if any.

You are quite definitely wrong.

I don't follow his forum wherever it is, but I think the phenomenon of
"Mixerman" has played out its usefulness (to bring people to the PSW
forum) and there's no longer a need for secrecy. However I'm not going
to be the one to divulge the secret. If he wants to be Mixerman, let
him. He's having fun with it.

He has also "outed" himself in one pro audio forum where pseudonyms are
frowned upon.

I'm pretty sure it's over. It was concocted to draw people to the
forum (more hits = more advertising revenue) and it did.

Maybe.
Maybe not.
I think most have come to the conclusion that it wasn't one actual
production, but a collage of productions he has been involved with over
the span of his career.
But, one piece of evidence against that was a post from around 9 months
earlier( I have been a lurker since PSW beginnings) by Mixerman, where
he is starting work with a new band and complaining about the drummer.
The diary posting of his first dealings with Cotton is almost verbatum
of his earlier post.

And if I remember correctly, earned enough respect for the
posts to be deleted by everyone's consensus agreement, so it ain't

Let it go. You're all wrong in different various ways, trust

Do a google search. It's not that hard to figure out who he is. I
think Ty ford once outed him (or at least one of his posts lead to the
outing.). Cant say i give a **** one way or the other. I do find it
funny that his bud fletcher constantly harasses people who are
anonymous, but doesnt mind mixerman.
ES is indeed a clue. Also, Bombguy has outed him. drop him an email.

I agree. When Mixerman was posting here, his advice was good, and it was pretty
obvious he was a pro in the music business. When people become obsessed with
finding out who is speaking, rather than concentrating on what is being said, we
stand a real chance of losing that contributor. Whoever Mixerman is, his advice
is sound and professionally oriented. That SHOULD be all that matters.
If the original poster really knows Mixerman's name, it should be a very simple
matter to contact him, if that is the real purpose of the original post. He
also has a forum at ProSoundWeb and he can easily be reached by email there.

I agree that many of his posts are/were useful, but in all fairness, I think
Mixerman has made his identity a much bigger deal than it needs to be. He
regularly embraces intrigue about it, and shouldn't be alarmed if he
actually manages to pique interest.
As to whether the inherent utility of his posts should be all that matters,
perhaps, but we all know that image is (especially in show-biz) pretty much
everything. If you go out of your way to present yourself as the Lone Ranger
of recording engineers, then you oughtn't be surprised when people start
saying "who is that masked man?"

I think that's about half true, Harvey. MM certainly is a pro and has
dispensed good advice, but he's also been dead wrong about a lot of things.
Just like the rest of us mere mortals.
By now I'd think that Eric and Kenny and Vince and all those guys who have been
accused of being Mixerman must be about ready to sue the real guy for
defamation of character.

I went to PSW yesterday to check it out seeing as how I'm familiar with
some of the major criminals over there. But sheesh, from dialup that
interface makes January molasses seem like fresh lava flow. Maybe I
missed some options that would have sped it along, but they weren't
obvious to me and finally I just accepted that singing-up would be
pointless.
