What is the consensus on the ADAM S3-A speakers? Anyone try these yet?

Also...anyone hip to Klein & Hummel speakers? Opinions?

Thanks in advance...

Only at the AES show...I personally that they were OK, but they didn't
thrill me (everyone hears differently, as you know...)...there is something
about the high end that has to do with the ribbon tweeters which make it
sound kinda harsh, unnatural and hyped to my ear....for what that's worth..

REALLY awesome (to my ears, again)...in fact, I'm not a big fan of 3-way
monitors (2 crossover points), but their 3-way system sounds, to me,
absolutely fantastic...I think they are one of, if not THE, best monitor
I've ever heard....and even their smaller 2 way systems are WAY better than
most other 2 ways I've heard....but, they are not cheap...

Opinions?

That's mine (and 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee)...

They sound like Heil EMT systems. The top end is harsh but it's clean
and you can tell what is going on very easily.

I rather liked the K&H stuff I have worked on. Very popular in Europe
but you don't see it here much.

I haven't tried the model you mention but I did compare, head-to-head,
the Genelec 1030A, Adam P11 and Geithain RL906. To my surprise the
Genelecs were clearly not up to standards of the Adam and the
Geithains. The difference between the ADAM and Geithain was much
smaller.
The Geithains proved to be the best (the best small monitors I've
heard in my live) but the ADAMs were very impressive too and had the
best price/qualtiy ratio easily.

Ignace

some people have commented that the ribbon element throws out too much
treble, which could throw off your mix translation.

i haven't heard these monitors. they sell them at mercenary. and
those guys are completely junk-free up there.

the ones that are $10k a side look awesome.

The Genelecs have very different midrange, which isn't even supposed to
be flat. The 1031 would be a more honest comparison, and the S30 would
be a much more honest comparison with the Geitheins or Adams.

The top end on the Geitheins is a lot smoother. I am very impressed with
them, and I'd certainly pick them over the Adams for long-term listening.
But I could see the top end on the Adam being really handy for when you
need to listen for drop-outs and errors.

I like the S3-As. It took me a week with them to "get them", but when I
did it was really a good thing. Against the Genelecs 1031s, I find the
S3-As to be flatter, with the 1031s feeling scooped in the mids and
pushed in the highs. Against my old Mackie HR824s, again the S3-A feel
flatter, with the Mackie's feeling scooped in the mids, and hyped in the
low end. The Adams felt like then had better detail then both the
Genelecs or the Mackies. I have no problem with ear fatigue with the
ADAMs. -Mick

I'm auditioning the S3As now, with mixed results. They're not as "rewarding"
as my LSR28's and in fact don't seem to enjoy being pushed at all. At medium
volumes they are non-fatiguing, with lots of detail, almost like a kinder,
gentler NS10. I'm not sure I'm a clinical enough mixer to get the most out of
these speakers, but lots of people swear by them, and maintain that they
translate extremely well.

There's been quite a bit of discussion about this in
the "high end" section of gearslutz.com.

I'm still on the fence myself.
