For which Operating system.
Linux has a lot of activity.

i have audacity it is a stereo recorder
I think the poster is looking for more than 2 tracks

check out quartz audio and quartz audio master. they're both free. i've been
using both and they're both good. i prefer using the quartz audio program
because of ease of use. the quartz audio has 6 trks. the quartz audio master
has 4 audio and 16 midi trks. both come with effects.
