I am looking for a hand held microphone that has a button built in that allows
the user to push it and it will bleep so you can't hear the dirty words? Does
this sound like something out there? Please email me with info if there is?

The problem here is that by the time the user has identified the dirty
word, it has been said and pushing the button won't help. Of course if
it is the user himself that is speaking the dirty words, then he
should simply not say them.

Either way, this mic ain't gonna help.

Do you really think you can do it in "real-time"?
(Note that most/all call-in radio & TV shows use a
delay of several seconds to give the producer some
reaction time to dump out in the event of undesirable
content.)

By "bleep" do you mean just muting the audio, or
actually replacing it with a tone ("beep")?

> Does this sound like something out there?

Some mics have an on/off switch built-in.
There are XLR connectors available with a switch
that can be wired and used with any microphone.

Never seen/heard a mic that would actually replace
audio with a tone. Wouldn't be that difficult to do, but
likely microscopic market (maybe just YOU.)

That isn't how Usenet works. You are expected to
at least monitor your thread in the newsgroup(s).

let me try again. The person using the microphone would say a line using a
swear word and the beep would be up to the person speaking, the sound would be
a standard bleep. It is for stand up at a corporate event for a joke. Just
trying to see if they had something like it out there

Okay, now we see the application, and that it's truly needed for
live-sound use. What was confusing is that one generally "bleeps" out
previously recorded obscenities as part of a process called
post-production.

I've never heard of it, but if you dare, ask on
alt.audio.pro.live-sound. At worst case, you could pay someone to
modify a mic, installing an oscillator and pushbutton switch to do
exactly this.

Speaking of 'dare', I peeked, they're talking about the new Bose
cylindrical PA thing over there...

You'll likely have to rig something up.

Hello, the only way possible that I know of is to have a delay as used in
commercial radio, and have a dump facility. Depending on the set-up the
radion station has a buffer of a certain length of time, when the button is
hit, the audio within this 'buffer' is dropped, and a direct live feed goes
to air, as the buffer builds up a delay again. These units are commercially
available and can be purchased economically second-hand. combine one of
these with a mic pre-amp (and a mic) and that will do what you need.

The ProCo Couch Drop might get you at least half way there and is under $50

It might be possible to add a tone circuit to it too.

Best of luck!

Nope, BUT if you can get the soundman in on the gag, you can get a 1 KC
oscillator in a stick for $20 or so. Markertek sells one for tracing
line problems. Put it on a spare channel of the console, then unmute
that channel for the beep.

Many older consoles have oscillators built in for alignment tones and signal
tracing, although this is one the features you won't find much any more in
the drive to make PA gear cheaper and cheaper..

That mic doesn't f(BEEP)in' exist! If it did, nobody would ever f(BEEP)kin'
use it anyway!

I thought you had something like that in mind. If the speaker was
going to push a bleep button, he could just as well not say the word.

It would be possible to build something like this, but you can't buy
one off the shelf. What's it worth to you?

My guess is that this guy wants to use this as a comedic effect perhaps.

I think so.

Perhaps a tone generator hooked up with some kind of remote control. A
foot switch if he would be staying in one place, or otherwise something
like a car remote entry switch in his pocket?
