I hate it when some one comes to the aid of someone and has no idea what the
other one was complaining about.
I posted something about a video that I looked at on AOL that just happened to
be someone with big time label/self credit. All of the replies that where
against what I said made statements about what they saw other than what I saw.
Oh that person is so great and that person is so talented, well did anyone make
a statement (but me) about the video that I was talking about? No they did not!
If you listen to it and use you ears you will agree with me that the singer was
so far out of key that it makes you want to turn it of.
I have nothing against the person in question just that it's so easy to
autotune someone in a studio that can't carry a tune. That makes it hard to
know what is what these days.
And there is a very big difference between singing back up and singing lead!

I have to admit that autotune hurts my ears a lot more than sloppy
singing. There is one cheesy hit out there now with this chick and a guy
whining. The chick is so ruler-flat the whole time its absurd, not only that
but her voice is unmusical, uninteresting and really just plain crappy
autotuned or not. And the song sucks. Man why did I turn on the radio at all?
Just to see, that MAYBE something decent is on there. Never is, probably never
will be ever again.
blahblah

Is this the Sheryl Crow thread that your'e referring to? If so, I didn't
participate in that argument, but I saw a few of the posts... for whatever it's
worth, I saw one of her live perfomances on TV a few months back, and I thought
that on some of the songs she sounded great, but on a few she was WAY off
pitch. Maybe she's just spotty & can nail it sometimes, but not others. If
that's the case, then that's really not that different from a lot of people,
IME.

Are you, perchance, talking about "Picture", with Kid Rock & Sheryl
Crow? I don't know if that's a case of Auto-Tune being used too much,
but there's just something odd about the singing on that track. They
both sound very sloppy and laid-back in terms of vocal inflection, but
yet they hit the right notes every time.
OTOH, there's Faith Hill, whose use of Auto-Tune is so obvious, you
don't even have to pay attention to hear it. On her latest album,
there are these Cher/"Believe"-like grace notes and melismas all over
the place that are so obviously fake and so obviously electronically
manipulated that no one would ever think she actually sung that way
for real. Just listen to her recent radio hit, where she probably
sung the word "blue" as two notes, but it was Auto-Tuned into four or
five notes, like "bl-ue-hue".
And speaking of which, I happened to hear Eiffel 65's one-hit-wonder
song "Blue" the other day, and it's definitely the male equivalent of
Cher's "Believe" in terms of its overuse of Auto-Tune.

I don't know about any newer songs but, I remember seeing her & her band
perform on a tv show (I forget & prob taped) they did that song..."This
Kiss" and...I didn't notice any thing peculiar, actually I though she
performed excellent. It was very enjoyable to see (what I thought) was real
singing. You could see that she was barely making it to the second "This
Kiss" in the chorus,...but she was. She really belted it out. It was nice
and Raw. Don't tell me she was using back then, it will ruin my woodee.

I wonder if you may have seen her performance on one of the VH-1 "Divas"
specials, as I saw part of that one & caught her dong: "This Kiss" & noticed
the same thing - made it but barely on the second note of the second "kiss"
each time. Either way, she's got a pleasant voice to listen to.
I think I recall reading somewhere that she wasn't orginally slotted for that
show, but someone got sick & she was asked to fill in... got a lot of exposure
with that one, too - same thing happened to her with the Superbowl, in that she
was a second-choice after someone else couldn't do it or got dropped for some
reason.
