You have to record the MIDI.
This assumes that your sound card is duplex capable of simultaneous play and
record.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The simplest way is to record the MIDI playback in a wave editor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Musicmatch:-
Under Options>Recorder>Source - Set the source to System Mixer
The System Mixer is the Speaker Icon in the system tray at the bottom of the
screen in Win 98.
If it's not there in XP open your Multimedia Settings and enable it.
In the System Mixer there should be an Option to set the Recording source -
this should be set to MIDI or What You Hear.
Under Musicmatch Options>Recorder>Quality select the format of the output
file.
Open your sequencer alongside Musicmatch.
Press Record in Musicmatch and Play on your sequencer MIDI file.
The playback is recorded.
I would recommend recording in wave format so that you can edit the wave
file, trim, normalize, volume adjust.
Musicmatch has an option under File>Convert to convert between wave and mp3.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another way is to use the Nero Wave Editor that comes with Nero CD Burning
software (version 5+).
You first have to set MIDI as the recording input via the system mixer.
Then open the Wave Editor - Select Audio > Record and select the wave
format.
The wave editor is now paused.
Open your sequencer/ player/ notator and playback the MIDI file.
The wave editor level meters should respond.
If OK - rewind the playback - hit the Wave Editor Record button and Hit Play
in your sequencer.
When the playback ends Pause the Wave Editor and hit OK.
You now have a waveform in the window.
You can adjust volume, normalize, trim or whatever before hitting File >Save
As
to save in whatever format you require. (wav, mp3, mp4, vqf, aiff)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope this works for you.

Is there a fee or shareware application out there that will conver MIDI to
WAV?
I did a search on newsgroups, and all I can find are post regarding very
high-end audiophile jargon I don't understand, or old posts refering to
things I can't find.
For example, one regarding Musicmatch. I downloaded Musicmatch, and can't
find any way to convert audio files.
Thanks for any info!
Oh, I have Windows XP if that matters.
Thanks!

And I forgot "Synthfont" www.synthfont.com
Uses a mixture of soundfonts from your hard drive to render a wave file.
You don't need a Creative card to use the soundfonts.
And it's FREE !

Check out Wavmaker at www.polyhedric.com . Another program is Wingroove at
http://www.sonicspot.com/wingroove.
Good luck

What Barry suggested should work. under most
conditions.. However.. a much simpler and quicker
( but not necessarily cheaper ) way to convert MIDI
content to audio-wave files.. without having to "play"
and "record" .. is to use "Edirol" soft-synth version
Roland's "Virtual Sound Canvas".(VSC) It's GS
instrumet set renders better sound quality than GM
( general midi ) sound cards. And it has the ability
to directly "convert-and-save" MIDI to Digital Audio
"WAV" files without having to "play" and "record"
( As Barry described above ).
The Edirol VSC's "auto-convert" Wave-output is
very convenient .. and does render very good sound.
It's a "soft-ware" product rather than "hardware".
It can be downloaded from various web-vendors
However it is * NOT * FREE * ( it's about $45 ).
For more information.. go to..

Liam I tried to post ModTracker for you , it converts several formats ,
including midi to wav , this group doesn't seem to allow zip files , so just let
me know where you want it posted to and i'll "up" it for you.

I use creative labs recorder, comes with sound card. It will record the
exact sound that you hear. So if you are using Yamaha XG synth, you get all
that beautiful sound into your wav file. Try finding it at
soundblaster.com.

I agree that SoundFonts are the best way to render MIDI to WAVe.
To get high quality sound, try feeding synth with soundfonts from here:
http://www.personalcopy.com/
Or try searching for "Chaos 12M SF2" - it is small and simple but
matches my taste and mimics professional Roland keyboards.
You can contact me if you run into trouble.
