Thanks

Rode NT3 is a hypercardioid mid-sized diaphragm condensor with internal 9v
battery power. List price is about $150 US, I think?

Depends on what you want to record.

A single point stereo mic perhps? Audio Technica 822, or maybe a Rode
NT4. Both can be powered by internal batteries and come equipped with
a stereo mini plug so they'll plug in to your DAT without adapters.

they make hidden spy microphones that clip onto the sides of your
glasses frames. but you'd have to have some serious zen patience to
stand their motionless to keep the stereo image stable.

The ones I have aren't really THAT small. They are about the diameter of a
dime. I did get a very nice recording of a big band instrumental by standing
in front of the stage, until someone came up and loudly asked me to move.
The countryman B6; now that's a spy mic.

It depends what you're trying to record, in what kind of room, what your
budget is and a few other factors.
If small omnis would be right, you might have a look at our High End
Binaurals (using DPA 4060 capsules).
