Hello, Iīve been using Nuendo for quite a while without any problem.
But today, if I try to record any audio, the system crash as soon as I
press record and I have to restart the computer. I use a Mac.
I also have Peak and Deck installed and they record fine right now,
but I usually donīt use them.
The problem doesnīt happen when working with ASIO Sound manager. Only
when I set-up the drivers of my soundcard, an M-Audio DUO USB.
I donīt understand. I spent the whole day checking everything, I even
reinstalled Nuendo but it didnīt help.
Thank you for any help.

Try...
1. Run a diagnostic on the Mac to make sure you don't have any new hardware
problems or disk errors.
2. Do you have automatic update set up on the Mac? It's theoretically
possible that an update broke the M-Audio driver. Try downloading a newer
driver from M-Audio, and see if that helps.
3. Try using another audio program with the M-Audio, and see if it crashes as
well (e.g. if you have Ableton Live or something).

Stef, don't try to use a Mac sound panel setting with the Duo setup in
the Mac sound panel as the sound device, use the M-Audio Duo ASIO driver. If
you don't have the driver download it from the Midiman website, it belongs in a
folder in your Nuendo folder labeled "Asio drivers". Then set up Nuendo to use
that Asio driver.
Trying to use the internal sound on a mac is a losing proposition with
Nuendo, and if you want to use VST instruments the latency is incredibly bad
unless you use the ASIO drivers - think 3 seconds before you hear a single note
playback. ( But then I am using a G3 500 powerbook, a real turtle speedwise. )

Thank you.
Iīm rebuilding the desktop at the moment and itīs taking hours, itīs
been 2 hours since itīs started, and goes very slowly. Usually itīs
not that slow. It sounds strange. Also, I tried the M-audio with Peak
and Deck and Logic (!) and it works fine with the 3 of them. But not
with Nuendo...
If the rebuilt deskop doesnīt help, iīll do some disc check, but i
think itīs strange that it happens only with Nuendo.
Iīve been installing some plug-ins recently. Of course I removed them,
but maybe something has been installed. I donīt know :(
More advices ?

Here comes the solution:
I went on Steinbergīs website and subscribed to the Nuendo forum.
There I realized that the problem I have is well known. Some users
recommand to disable Quicktime Exchange. I did. It works. Happy! :)
Maybe it can help somone, someday.

I take it your using N1.6 for OS9? As you already found out the
freeze on record, and sometimes freeze on playback, for Nuendo in OS9
is a well documented issue. Total pain in the ass. Turning off
Quicktime didn't solve it for all of us. If you get it again try
moving the mouse before using a hotkey to start record/playback. If
you haven't moved the mouse in a while and you hit the space bar it
can trigger the bug. Don't ask me why.
I found N1.6 to be nothing but problems on the mac. Some people were
able to get it working solid, and some still use it, but many just
hated it. When N2 for OSX came out earlier this year it set the
record straight on Mac. Very solid. And it's just been getting
better with each update. I don't remember the last time I had a
freeze/crash. It uses more resources so you can't get quite as many
tracks, but is much less quirky.

Hello,
I hope N1.6 will work on OS9 for me now cause I canīt find a version
for OSX.
The ones I installed so far suggest me to download some additional
extentions called PACE InterLok (aka anti piracy ****). Yeah right ;)
I know Iīll probably get insulted by saying this on this list but I
never buy a soft before I try it. For instance Iīm happy that I didnīt
buy N1.6 since itīs a pain in the ass. So weīll see when I find Nuendo
for OSX.
Thank you very much for the tips.
PS: My working mail address is now

Uhhh, right. Well cracks will be an even bigger pain in the ass. The
word is all the cracks of Nuendo have major bugs.
