Currently I am looking for a digital multitrack, I'm leaning tward the
Fostex 2424(LV). I'm looking to use it for live recordings as well as
in the studio. For live work it seems to be the best for the money,
(about $1300) the 24 1/4" I/O's make it easy for live work. For
studio work it also seems to make sense because I can take the MTR
into a studio track a band and then save money on edit and mix time
and just x-fer to protools at home. I guess I was wondering if anyone
new of another MTR at least 16 tracks that is reliable and around
$1000? Also does anyone know of any good sites for purchasing used
gear?

The D2424LV is a really great machine for the money and I don't think you'll
find a better deal. ( I own one )

For 16 tracks you could get a Fostex D1624 or D160v2 for under $800 if you
look around but it only has 8 analog inputs ( usually unbalanced unless it
has the expensive balanced I/O option card ) so you'd have to use an
external 8 channel converter for the other 8 channels which . . . all
together will wind up being more expensive than just getting the D2424LV.

Check out the Fostex forum at http://homerecording.com/bbs/ too.

Best of luck!

www.Ebay.com is a great place to shop used ( if you are reasonable
careful ). Also try www.recycler.com

Hi John,

It's stored in a Fostex proprietary format called FDMS-3. You can export
backups as WAV though to MS DOS FAT 16 drives ( 2 gb limit per disk AFAIK ).
I'm not sure if you can move files as WAV with the ethernet option card or
not. There is a non commercial FDMS-3 'ripper' program out there that might
be useful but I haven't tried it. More here :

Best of luck!
