PS dunno bout freeware or 'decent', but NTracks is shareware.

Maybe he means dissident, as in politically incorrect???

With N-Track Studio, recording and playing back mixes is free, but
you have to pay/register to save a mix as a wav file.

Try the open source project's Audacity. CoolEdit it ain't, but the basics
are there. It appears to be head and shoulders above Windows Sound Recorder.

There is also a similar editor that is distributed with EAC.

Search for "Quartz Audio Master Freeware". This sw is great. Combines audio
and midi.
