I know both these pres are well regarded but I was wondering if anyone
whose had experience with both would compare them....especially when
it comes to vocal work.
Thanks

The biggest factor for me would be the fact that John Hardy himself
will probably respond to this post.

Tom;
I have no experience with the Avalon preamp, and I have not
heard from anyone who has, so I can't comment. Maybe someone
else will eventually jump in. I am obviously biased toward
the M-1, and you certainly can't go too far wrong with it.
Let me know if you have any specific questions. You can also
go to my web site for information. Thanks.

I doubt anyone ever went wrong using a Hardy. But there are hundreds of
preamps and billions of voices, so are you aiming to track a voice, a
couple of voices or lots of different singers?
I'll wager that if you pick an apt mic for a given vocalist in the
context of a particular track, a Hardy will kick some butt.
