I picked up a Palmer PGA 04 today (These are so cheaper here in Germany
since they are made here). I had heard that the PDI 03 was better but that
does not seem to be available anywhere. Just wondering if I should care
about this evasive PDI 03, or if its superior quality is mythical.

I use a Palmer PGA 04. It's the best thing I've ever tried. Very close to a
real miked cabinet sound.
I've never tried a PDI 03, so I can't comment on that.

Maybe you mean the PDI 05? Looks like a little bit different application...

No, there was a PDI 03 and supposedly it is the best Palmer ever made
(discontinued). But I think what is happening is that a couple sites mention
PDI 03 being better and many people keep reading the same few sites and so
there is this inflated opinion of the PDI 03. I know Satriani used one on a
recent cd. In any case I think the PGA 04 is quite impressive. I just
compared it to an ADA Microcab and it smokes. Also, being in Germany I
certainly wouldn't order Palmer products from mercenary. I got my PGA04
brand new for $350 (after Euro conversion - would have been cheaper if the
US $ wasn't getting crushed by the Euro right now...), compared with $500 at
mercenary! Ouch!
I think I may buy a bunch of these things before I leave Germany and sell
them in the states. The cool thing about the PGA04 is that it is passive, so
there are no power issues.
