I have obtained a Teac bulk eraser for tapes .
Is this the right way to erase 1/2" and 1/4" tapes instead of push the
record button ?

Is it handheld or the tabletop kind?
Bulk eraser is the way to go for really clean tapes. Not good for the
Rolex, though.

Bulk erasure randomizes the domains, and it can, if done properly, be
quieter than using the erase head.
You probably have one of those hand-held erasers, that looks like a
small coffee can with a handle on top. That will work with 1/4" tape,
but it probably doesn't have a strong enough field to erase 1/2" tape.
Try it and see.
Do you know how to use it properly? It's better to watch someone do it
than to try to explain it in words.

Depends. If your erase current on the machine is high enough, bulk erasing
isn't needed. But if you are reusing an old tape, it's a lot better to
bulk erase it rather than have your client play it and hear what was on it
from before. Likewise if you are getting rid of old tapes it would be a good
idea to bulk them first.

Plus, only a bulk eraser can completely erase low frequency fringing effects.

It is the table top thing.
