View Full Version : Is there a way to use Protools LE without the digi 002r?

I'm very new to all this and was wondering if there is any way to mix
on my G4 PowerBook using Protools LE without having it connected to
the 002r. Seems that one might want to play around with the mix while
traveling (for example) without having to lug around the box.

One other thing. Any suggestions as to preferable size and brand and
issues relating to an external firewire drive. The G4 only has a 80GB
4800 rpm drive.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

In order to run ProTools LE, you must have either the Mbox, Digi-001, or
Digi-002(r) attached to your computer. Think of it as part of Digi's
copy protection.

You could buy an M-Box and travel with that. You have to listen to
SOMETHING when you mix (geez, I hope you realize that!) so it might as
well be something that will make your software work and isn't very
big.

Digidesign software has to see some Digidesign hardware in order to
run. It's not exactly copy protection, it's to be sure that they get
some money out of you no matter where you work.

Thanx so much both of you I's a real pleasure getting informed, fast replies.

The only way to run ProTools without any Digi hardware connected is to
use ProTools Free. The good news is it's free, the bad news is it's
limited to 8 tracks and you have to listen through the computer's
onboard sound hardware.

I believe the windows version will work through a sound card.

Not correct. I had PTF working fine with my Creamware Pulsar system,
which is definitely NOT the computer's onboard soundcard.
