View Full Version : Ridiculous Prices!!!

I have been seeing some crazy prices being listing here, and wondering if
the sellers are on crack or coke, or smoking some marijuana somewhere
near...
Some of the prices are good, but the majority are pure joke. I would prefer
to by item X brand new with warranty & return-policy for $2000 bucks, rather
than buying it used for $1600 worth of bad luck...
Com on guys, do better than that! Don't bother try to make back the money
that you spend for your goods -- you lost!!!

You might cite a few examples of Brand X as it really depends on the
product.
If somebody put a Great River MP-2NV (original cost around $1950, now
they run more) for $1600 it would last about an hour.
Keep in mind too that this ain't Ebay, prices go DOWN not up...people
usually put a little fluff factor in there just to allow for the
inevitable price drop.

What a joke. Let's see what tune you'll be singing when YOU are trying to
sell a $2,000 piece of gear that you just bought. $1,600 for a used piece
of hi-end analog gear that originally sold for $2,000 is not that bad,
especially if it's in dead mint condition, in box with manual etc. With
most gear (such as compressors, pres, eqs, etc), there's really not much
that can "wear out", so if the seller is honest and sells you a "mint" unit,
you will most likely NOT have any problems. If you are talking about a tape
deck or cd player or something that CAN wear out fast, that's another story.
There are plenty of hi-end $2,000 analog units (such as compressors, pres
etc) that people would GLADLY pay $1,600 for used. Stop whining and get a
job.

Hey. You don't HAVE to buy the gear you are referring to. You can always go
to GeetarCenter and deal with their wonderful and informed staff. And get
the "high quality" equipment they offer.
Get a life and get a clue. Quality audio gear retains its value. So, even
after you've played your noise through it, it should bring close to what you
paid for it used.

Nonsense. It totally depends on the item in question. An ADAT that was $2000
new definitely isn't worth $1600 now, but a $2000 hand built mic preamp or
ribbon mic is worth very close to $2000 now & may be worth more in the future
depending on its pedigree.

This resale value is one of the few things in pro audio that gives you a
break!!! I had my business advisor revamp a recent business plan for a concert
club. The initial investment in the renovations for one building; including
sound system was just under $3 M..he depreciated it over 3 years..then had us
buying all the gear AGAIN every 3 years!!! It took me a few minutes to explain
to him that Midas consoles and PA amps and other gear..that never gets moved or
unplugged..doesn't wear out like carpets and chairs.
Thank God!

And you are who? And the pieces of kit you fail to reference clearly are
what?
I've bought some nifty stuff on the used market and can't recall having
a bad trip. Is that your own high horse, or did your rent the plastic
saddle, too?

I can't comment on whether this is good or bad, but I'm definitely looking
for the day when you put some high-quality gear up for sale!

I guess you should know by now that I need not respond to personal
scandulous attacks; since you could very well be a crack-head, a lunatic, or
a damn ghost...
I do have the loot magazine as well as buy & sell, and see people
advertizing some gears at prices as if they were on crack. Even Swee****er
is advertising $2000 demo items for sale, with only $50 less than the brand
new ones. They must be fu\cking mad.....!!!!

I had bought a U87 along with the shockmount for over 3k (3 years ). Yet a
guy wanted to sell me his use one for 2.8k back then. I told him to fu\ck
off, and went street to Sam Ash Professional in manhattan to get my brand
new girl....

Guess what? I have close to 150k pro gears in my back room; owned by me and
not R&B and company. Those stuff are like a part of my home furnishings, and
will get thrown out when they stop working...
Fu\ck Ebay!

I could use some "pro gears". You got a 3rd gear for a '92 Honda CBR?
Perferrably an "Orient Express". Those are rad!

Well, I bought an 87 new for about $550, used it for a long time and
sold it for more than three times that.
Sellers are individuals. Some prices here are spot on, given that the
seller knows, cyberistically speaking, most potential purchasers and
knows those interested will have an idea of a goodie's worth.
