Who transfers files from their D2424 into a computer for editing? What is
your process? Fostex has its own file system so I'm afraid that I can't pop
out the drive and install it in my PC. I don't want to use SCSI, plus I
read in the manual that the drives have to be formatted using FAT16, which
means only 2 GB per partition and the Fostex only recognizes the first
partition. So, besides the Ethernet option (because that's expensive), how
do you transfer your wave files?

Hi Thomas,

I transfer tracks between my PC / Cubase / MOTU 2408 setup and Fostex
D2424LV ( and previously a D824 ) via the lightpipe connections in real
time. Everything is synced via word clock and Midi Time Code (MTC).

When I was only doing 8 channels at a time with the D824 I didn't notice any
problems but when doing 24 tracks at once with the D2424LV I got some 1
sample clicks / spikes into random tracks. I finally determined ( at least
I'm pretty sure ) that when transferring from the D2424LV to the PC it
worked best to let the D2424LV be the MTC master and Cubase be the slave (
when I originally figured out the setup with the D824 I tried it both ways
and it didn't seems to make a difference so I left it with Cubase being the
master ).

About the time I finally figured this out our band moved away from recording
on the Fostex units for the most part so I didn't get much of a chance to
confirm things but it seemed that if I made a transfer back to the Fostex
from the computer I got clicks again. I was thinking that I maybe needed to
make the D2424LV the slave again but I didn't get a chance to try it.

So, start out by making your recording device the slave and the playback
device the master and see how it works out for you.

Best of luck!
