while you might be using more cpu than you need, it's not a problem
until you need more cpu than you have. are you actually running out
of cpu? if not, don't worry about it, if yes, then the producer is
going to have to deal with that reality. you can always print the
"compressed" tracks to another file and bring it back in--the producer
gets his compression, real or imagined, and you get your cpu back.

"Threshold light?" Since I am from the Jurassic era(read: real, cold
hard components you hold in your hand), I am not totally familiar with
your PC-based compressor.

Does it have LEDs indicating reduction of the signal below your
selected threshold, as does a "real" compressor? That is, when you
see the VU LED on the screen surge up(or to the right) when transients
and other high levels hit it, does a similar LED surge to the
left(indicating dynamic reduction)?

If the leds behave in that fashion, compression is definitely taking
place and you WILL hear it - even if only a 1.5:1 ratio.

Hey! LED "meters" are inconistent with claims of Jurassic era "real"
compressors. Only honest-to-gawd D'Arsonval meter movements will do,
thank-you very much!
