Teac DAP20 question

If I hadn't misplaced the owner's manual I wouldn't need to ask, but....
Upon powering up my Teac DA P20 DAT recorder only offers the option of Auto
ID marking of tracks (can't undo this option). It has only recently begun
doing this (I just want straight ABS time logged only). Any special tricks
on powering-up to defeat the Auto ID facility?
Also, how do I manually delete the ID's thus added on recent tapes ?

I don't think that you can turn off this feature, or at least I never
discovered a way a to do it. You can remove the IDs on any DAT that
allows you to manually renumber the IDs (usually studio-type decks).
Most can do it.

It powers up the same way it was last used. If Auto-ID was on when you
shut it off, it will power up with Auto-ID on. If Auto-ID was off when
you last powered down, it will power up with Auto-ID off. You
probably forgot how to turn it on or off.

To turn audo-writing of start IDs off, when it's in Record/Pause,
press the ID SELECT button and the Auto-ID indicator will turn off. If
you want to manually write a Start ID with Auto-ID off, with the tape
running in Record, just press the Play button.

The only special power-up trick that I know is to hold the Stop button
when turning the power on. This will defeat the auto power-off
feature(?) and leave the power on even when the recorder has been idle
for several minutes.

1. Play the tape up to just before the ID that you want to erase, or use
the skip function to find the ID you want to erase and stop within 9
seconds of that ID time (this is the length of the ID block).

2. Press the ID Select until "DEL" is displayed.

3. Press Play. The recorder will search for the beginning of the Start
ID and play through it, erasing the ID.

You might want to renumber the IDs after erasing one or more. Use the
ID Select button to select RENUM, then press Play.
