Any reviews of the Marantz PMD670? Anything competitive on the market
for archival instrumental field recording?

I'm using it for voice recording and I am happy with it.

We got one for conference recording, meetings and such. It is very flexible
on file types and compression. Supplies 48v if you need it. Easy to operate
and they hide some of the switches under a screw-down plate, plus you can
lock out configuration changes so it doesn't get messed up in the field. XLR
mike connectors.

Only USB 1.1, which seemed odd for a device introduced in July 2003. It
powers down when you open the flash card bay door, which can be a surprise.
First day I somehow corrupted a CF card so it wouldn't read when connected
to a computer. Called tech support and they answered right away and were
helpful. Even sent me the manual, because their web site is being updated.
