I bought a refurbished ADAT XT a few months back. I've had nothing but
problems with it. There is a fluttering noise on tracks 5 & 6 with no
signal going to tape and now the thing just started eating tapes as
soon as we inserted the tape into the machine. Anyone have any advice
on how to fix this? or know what the problem is? Can anyone recommend
a repair guy in Phoenix?

You should have submitted the model and make. This way if there are common
faults, someone in these groups may know them.

Sounds like warn parts in the transport, such as guides, rollers, pinch
roller, bushings, and etc. The transport would have to be gone over by an
experienced tech who services there machines, and change all the out of spec
parts. Then a re-alignment would be necessary to put the machine back to
specs. This description is for a proper approach, but sometimes things can
be frigged or temporarily fixed. A proper fix is the answer.

I would strongly guess that this is the reason why the original owner sold
it. I would guess you have no warranty with this machine. The repairs one
these can be fairly expensive.

For a proper repair, I would suggest the authorized manufacture rep.

I don't know of any in Phoenix, but you might want to try Studio Maintenance in
San Rafael or their new center in Las Vegas.

THe "eats" is easy to fix; a mode switch and an alignment. The noise on 5&6 may
be a bit harder. Is the noise there with *nothing* plugged into the inputs and
monitor on source?
