Could someone look at this wav form (this is a drum overhead mic) and tell
me why the upper peaks are flattened?

Thanks,

That _could_ be a normal waveform, it's zoomed out so far there's no way to
tell. Zoom in to show individual waves so there are about 2-3 peaks, hopefully
with flattened tops. You might not find any.
But the apparent asymmetry in the snapshot is not uncommon at this zoom level.
You can't really call the peaks "flattened" because you aren't seeing them. If
the software doesn't have at least one horizontal pixel for each sample, you get
visual artifacts that bear no visible relation to reality, except that you can
tell where the silent parts are :).

I don't have to look at it to tell you that something is clipping.
Either your preamp gain is too high or you're feeding your sound card
with too high a level. Check your meters, and listen to the output of
the preamp.
On the other hand, if it sounds OK (and often drums do sound OK when
they're clipped), don't worry about it. Most people don't look at
waveforms before they critique music.

It looks like a drum hit, all right. It's still zoomed out all the way, though.
Horizontal zoom's what you'd want.
