Especially Cubase, since that's a Steinberg product also. On a Mac,
these things just work. On a Windows computer, you'll need to use the
ASIO driver, but unless you ignore the instructions to install the
software that comes with it (or you're buying one used without a manual
or software), it will be installed along with other things that the unit
expects to see.

I'm sure you can get the main stereo channel, but will there be six channels available in the DAW?

Yes. Each channel you use in the DAW should allow selection from the
interface. That's how it works with my Motu 828 in either Vegas or Pro
Tools. Cubase shouldn't be any different.
