any thoughts/opinions on the 1176 reissues...??

considering reissues for voxover compression & currently own silver-face "H"
revision.

While probably cleaner, are reissues any better-sounding? and how so?

thanks for your thoughts...

i like the ua reissues better than the purple ones that came out a few years back.

Personally I think they are an acquired taste (once one learns the
unit well and doesn't have "lazy" ears by ignoring the pros and cons
of it...it seems so many engineers are 'star struck' with the old
pieces). It has a distinct distortion characteristic in the upper
mids particularly and also rolls off the low end quite heavily
regardless of whether it's compressing or not (just turn the input
knob and listen on a low frequency source). Personally I'd rather
have a Crane Song Trakker or Empirical Labs Distressor any day of the
week, 10 times more versatile tonally. A Purple MC77 won't crunch
your audio overly so either IMNSHO.
