The goal when remastering, is remixing BETTER than average sounding!!
While that Abbey Road mixing thing Mr. Luxey found is cute, you didn't have to worry about STEREO mixing!

Now, let's say you recorded something, mix it, but you feel maybe a bit more cymbals (treble) is appropriate for balanced sound. First off, if there is ANY singing involved, you should do any audio enhancing to the music BEFORE adding vocal content, not after. This is where many make mistakes!! Even the "pros", one individual would mix, the other would later enhance! NO!

Even Kevin Gray, when he's faced with audio enhancing of preexisting "master" tapes, can't do as he wishes....

http://www.recordtech.com/faq.htm#distorted%20cymbals
"My record sounds like it is distorted, especially on the "S" sounds in the vocals and the high-hat of the cymbals. This was not on my master tape".

Anyway, for stereo content, it is sometimes nice JUST to hear the music, before adding vocals. The stereo mix should be interesting, not boring like a lot of 70's+ hit mixes were!! Remember, people are lazy and achieving a Grammy Winning stereo mix takes thought, knowledge and planning!! Actually, to impress people, it is sometimes advantageous to add new sounds to the mix, but maintain the past sounds!! In other words, sounds that were previously masked by other sounds!

This is one of my favorite songs, by Talking Heads, "Psycho Killer", that even WMGK-FM doesn't play!! Yeah, right, Classic Rock my behind. Just puppet DJs suspended by employer strings. The days of freedom of choice what to play is long gone!! Just follow the direction on the computer screen!

Even though I'm a sexist, I must admit, Tina did a pretty nice job playing bass guitar!!!...

http://www.angelfire.com/empire/abpsp/images/psycho-k.mp3

Let's give the Talking Head crew a round of applause for a fine song demonstration!!

Remastering has nothing to do with remixing.

Trying to correct the Agnew skidmark is like trying to teach a dog
turd. When you respond to him, you are helping him in his attempt to
destroy the newsgroup. He doesn't have any intention of learning, nor
is he capable. He's just vandalizing various online forums with his
moronic gibbering, and you are assisting him,

Destroy? I didn't see you correcting Geoff with the K vs k error.

I maintain my version of your favourite 'point' (go to the top of the
class, but don't take your book cos you won't be there long), SHOULD be
correct, as all other multipliers over the single unit ( M, G, T, P)
*are* capitalised, and all under are *not* (m, µ, p, etc) . And "K"
does not clash with any alternative small k.

So there.

Okay, you win!!! What's a Mho?

Anyway, after hours, the IT guy stopped by work. I was playing some of my 160k MP3 tunes I remixed or enhanced. He said, "You have a nice pair of speakers". I thought, "what, these are the cheapest speakers Dell offers!!!". Then I chalked the compliment up to my finest, American pride, sound quality!!!

So there!

Attempting to engage Agnew (which he will answer by zooming off on
some random tangent) does real damage to this newsgroup. "Don't feed
the trolls" is a common platitude, but in the case of this particular
troll, replying is a clear danger to the future of the group. This is
not any ordinary dumb****; this is a malicious troll with a history of
killing unmoderated forums, using many shifting sockpuppets. On
moderated forums, banning him has been necessary. It is impossible to
conduct any kind of adult dialog with him.

I do real damage? This is not an Audio group, it's just a chit-chat forum. At least I bring HQ sound here! Look at your Name Game thread.

Actually, many dislike me, because I sometimes make their CDs sound ill! Recently, one other who claimed I usenet "troll", wrote, "he doesn't tell us what he does to his sound". Heck, I'll explain that to anyone, it's not at all difficult. As a nice gesture, I dedicated a rare stereo song to him. Then I have to hear something like, "you dumb****, you posted it in Stereo, not Joint Stereo"!!

The Doors had it right, People Are Strange.

A Mho is a unit of conductance (alternative to a Semens). Not a
multiplier of any sort. Come come ....

Well, no. But he did, just recently, admit to his favored technique:
suckering others into doing the damage.

When nobody responds to his inane flapping, he responds to himself,
changing the subject to reflect his microscopic attention span. If
someone mentions a duck, he'll respond with quack quack quack, and how
he used to to feed the ducks, and how he tried to contact a bunch of
duck hunters, but they never responded, therefore he was always right,
and off into random unfocussed drooling. But he much prefers to get
someone else to answer, so he can pretend that he has a friend, and
then he can tell everyone how the duck farmers called him a genius.

But note that he admitted his goal, and how he likes to achieve it.
Agnew is not just a short-bus retard in a hockey helmet like Kozicki,
who's not really even able to have a goal to achieve. Kozicki is
enraged when he's shown to be an idiot. Agnew lives for it.

Enough of this nonsense. I'm out the door to the jam session, where I
will decline any and all audio system issues. Let the singers do that.
All I care about tonight is the blues, the funk, the bebop, the
reggae, the rock-n-roll, the soul; wherever it takes us, with my new
(to me) instrument. I'm sure there will be no trolls or morons at the
session. Audio thinking cap stays home; musician porkpie-hat out the
door with me.

I said I'd cause YOU to damage this newsgroup. I'm guessing you're Mike River's and/or Scott Dorsey's sockpuppet. It's obvious, both of them have harsh feelings towards me.

Anyway, a note to The Kmanrocks. Not sure you know they reissued (remastered) Bad Company on CD. I'm mainly interested in the Bonus tracks, buying one album at a time. They did manage to offer others multi-tracks for "Shooting Star" with the entire recording session (extended ending). Just letting you know, if interested.

Jack

It takes me about a second to type "mho" into my search engine of choice.

Not an IT guy that's half deaf? Which is the more likely cause, given
the quality of your "mixes" on here. Anyone trying to tell the quality

My guess, John Williamson and yourself wouldn't even recognize when songs were remixed. Maybe you need 1/4 Speed Mastering :-)
