I use an Al Smart C2 compressor going into an Avalon 747 comp/EQ for
my mix buss compression.......my Question is whats the sonic
differences and advantages / disadvantages to running straight out
from your mix outputs into the Smart /Avalon Compressors appose to
actually using the mixbuss inserts of the console.
Apologize in advance if this is a stupid question but for some
reason I cannot get my compressor to work on my mixbuss insert so I
just run straight out of my mix output into these compressors.I was
concerned I might be losing something.( besides my mind)
I generally do not do any fades to my mixes I save that for
mastering.
Thanks for your time!!!

I was going to comment on the change in compression as you make fades, but
you're obviously aware of that. I use my compressor the way you're talking
about and I haven't had any problems. I find that sometimes it's easier to
tqeak the over all compression levels with a little fader ride and
someitmes I like to monitor at a low volume with no compression which
pulling the fader down allows me to do.
