Any shout out for these?
I have a pair of MXL 603S but they have a phantom-power-based ringing
when plugged into the Focusrite preamps ( just like they did with the
Symmetrix preamp pair ). 5-7k, very nearly a single tone. It's some
weird switching power supply freedback noise - Scott sez "get the
Shure RF filters" but I haven't.
I can still use the 603S with a Behringer ADA8000 but I know I'm gonna
forget some time and track something with the Focusrite.... and
then it's all bandpass filters and shame. Plus, overheads matter a lot.
For guitars-n-basz-n-drums it's really the only stereo thing going
on ( I use them in X/Y but should really try spaced omnis some time ) .
The SP C4 just seem like a great deal.

I've been happy with the C4 pair that I have and consider them a good deal
for the money. I haven't noticed any ringing with the Focusrite that I
have, nor with a small Behringer mixer where I just take the preamp out
(send) to a Masterlink. They aren't Josephsons, but I didn't expect them
to be, either (also own C42s).

I expect that to be specific to the MXL pair I have.

I've had my matched pair for years... done many stereo XY recordings
and used for Overheads... never an issue.
