View Full Version : Cubase 5 Question about fader Automation points

I have a "group" track called "Horns", on my
latest #1 hit single. :)
Problem is, when the Master stereo out fader is
set to 0 dB, I have some digital clipping.
So I need to lower the rest of the band with my "Band"
group track, so I don't clip anymore.
But, I have all sorts of fader automation points
in the Horns track, so in order to keep the horns
at the same level as the band (with all the volume
variations), I'd have to decrease each auto fader point.
Is there a way to grab ALL the automation points,
and bring them ALL down (or up)?
I tried using the cursor to grab all the points, but
I wasn't able to move them up or down.
Maybe this is an issue in other DAWs too?

You can see the automation points in the curve.
I'm thinking I could try routing this group track
to yet another group track, and then adjust the
overall volume with the second one....

I meant: On the "Right"...

Next, assuming you want theindicated loudness boost have you tried inserting a suitable - izotope seemsalways to be suitable for no matter what - multiband compressor with <evilgrin> suitable settings </evil grin> after the fader. Not purism, but someof the time purism doesn't work while sensible mashing actually does worksome of the time.> I'm thinking I could try routing this group track> to yet another group track, and then adjust the> overall volume with the second one....Keeping things simple is a great strategy for productivity. Compare to areal band with acoustic instruments. You will then have musicians playingmore or less loud, but you will not have a volume control on eachinstrument. So where does this need for perpetual fader movement arise? -sincerely, because I don't seem to need it. Kind regards Peter Larsen

Paul,
1. since Cubase is 32bit internal, just lower the master fader and no problem.
2. Another group track would be one elegant solution, IMO.
3. As far as I remember, you can select all the points by mouse gesture using selection tool, or even plain old CTRL-A, but can't be really sure about that.

Cubase may be 32 bit internal, but the tracks are 24 bit, 48kHz.
Still enough headroom to just lower the master fader?

Yeah, I'll try it.

It was no problem selecting all the points, but once I had them
selected, I couldn't move them up or down.

Hm, just checked, I select multiple dots - they turn red - I grab one - move it up and down - all other follow. DOn't know why it did not work for you. You have to have Read turned on.

Or rather, the noise floor will not be any higher.

Wow, you're right. Not sure why it didn't work the first time for me.
Thanks, Luxey! Those horns are gonna do what I tell them to!!!
I wish I had this kind of control during a live rehearsal!
Haha!
THANKS AGAIN.

Or rather, the Signal to Noise ratio will not be lower.
