I am saddened to report that long-time poster Roger Norman has died after
a short fight with cancer. He was always good with a grounded real-world
viewpoint in the middle of theoretical discussions. I will miss him.

Can you paste some examples of poignant prose?

Sorry for your sadness.

Roger listened to some of my songs in 2001 and encouraged me to develop them into a CD... He played piano on some demos. He was a good guy without a big ego.

Thank you Scott, he was indeed a nice person.

Very sad. He always came over as a really nice guy, with good info to share, and
a gentle sense of humour.

On checking my newsreader history, I see that I'd bookmarked his replies to the
following rap threads:

10-18-2002 Recording keys in the early 70's - direct or mic'd?

It's been a while since I've heard from Roger, but he used to be quite
active around here. He was a true old-schooler who had a good grounding
in basics of electronics, sound reinforcement, and recording. He was one
of the few people who could put his understanding of computers and audio
together and really understood how DAWs worked or why they didn't.

He was a good cook, too, and was as likely to post about brining a
turkey as about miking brass in a salsa band. And as a Viet Nam war
vet, he was quick to debate politics when the subject came up.

RIP, Roger

Yes, up in Silver Spring. He worked a lot of jazz events in the DC area.

Sad to hear this too - I never met him but he always seemed like one of
the good guys here.

I saw the title of the thread, and started hoping he was selling something, or whatever.

Roger W. Norman was probably the finest soul that ever visited this group. I never met him in person, but I know I can not be wrong about above statement.

May he rest in peace.

Roger was a nice guy. Smart, loved the music and the people who made. I'm sad that I missed my opportunity to spend time with him towards the end, but glad to have at least been in touch with him.
