I was reading a thread about the M160 as an acoustic instument
mic...Hank I believe likes it in those apps. So I try a test
recording with the m160, a GR MP4M and A Gibson J-45. I have used
that chain for guitar cabs and love it. The problem I encountered is
that even with the GR gain cranked full up I get almost no signal to
my converters. I was trying to mic about 18" off the 14'th fret or
so. Any closer and it got too woofy. It produced a really warm sound
that I could use, a lot, I might add.
Now, it doesn't sound too noisy to my untrained ear. But, I think you
generally want a better signal than that to get good resolution. I's
almost HAVE to normalize the signal to get it in line with the other
tracks in a mix in terms of amplitude. Am I missing something...I
thought the GR was the cheese for a low output mic like this?
