View Full Version : Presonus firestation---firewire harddrive conflicts

I bought and installed my Presonus firestation in about a half hour
with no serious problems... until i tried to plug in my 80gig firewire
hard drive. it seems that the two pieces of hardware are in conflict,
as whenever i boot up my pc, make the correct mlan patchbay settings,
everything is fine. but then i power on my FW harddrive and the "EXT
mLan" word clock light starts flashing (meaning it's out of sync).
attempts to re-setup the patchbay after turning on my hard drive don't
have any effect.
i've tried every possible routing configuration (1394 cable from
computer---firestation, HDD---firestation, computer---HDD, and
HDD---firestation, etc.) i'm wondering now whether the 1394 port on my
Dell Inspiron 8000 (PII/900) laptop is designed only to support one
device at a time...
anybody experience a similar problem?

I have had a similar problem running mLan from a DM2000 to a Mac DAW. mLan
simply cant share the bus. In our case we got around it by dropping in
another IEEE1394 card. Perhaps you can put a cardbus FW card in the laptop?
