View Full Version : email list (distribution lists)

I have a 1100 (and growing) strong email list which I use to send out
bimonthly updates on concerts and the like. I had been using the email
utility provided by my web hosting service provider to send messages to
my list (via an email distribution list). However, my hosting service
recently went through a disastrous upgrade (frankly, I am surprised they
survived at all) and I no long can send messages to large distribution
lists. It is a major pain in the neck to break the list down to 100 unit
size.
So, what is available to send to large distribution lists? I don't need
an email list manager as I have my own database of email address- but
perhaps a list manager is part of the solution?
thanks.

Well, I certainly sympathise with your ISP - this is about the only
way they can deal with spam. Your alternative is probably to use your
own SMTP server something like Pointcast works nicely. The
disadvantage is that every copy is sent from your machine rather than
a central server. I'm assuming you are broadband, not dialup.
Otherwise it is a search for a public SMTP that isn't too fussy in its
rules.

I'm using Pegasus and I really like it for sending bulk
Admittedly, I've only ever sent 75 at once but there's no limit and its
server-side (sends them all in 1 go as if I just sent a single email).
Might not be what you want but I thought it was worth a shot
