View Full Version : Problem with Waves plugin

Using Waves X-Noise I have a problem. I have captured my sample noise
nicely, and can apply the correction OK. The problem is this - when
using the "Preview" mode (in Cooledit Pro) the correction sounds
great, but when I apply it for real, the effect is quite different,
and the sound is now muffled and lacking top. Any idea what I'm doing
wrong?

The noise is a bit of aircon rumble.

What version of waves are you using? Direct X I take it?

I'll see if I can reproduce it in Nuendo or Wavelab.

AH yes, discovered that with 2.0 and i discovered a few swear words too
after i THOUGHT i rendered a bunch of files properly. I found that during
the capture/preview modes when you made your adjustments it worked. But as
soon as you went to bounce that file or save it to a file, it would return
to either default settings or wrong settings.

I believe the thing that ended up working was soloing the desired track with
X-noise, and bouncing it in real time to another track. i.e. send the signal
to output 1-2 (for example) and set another track to record that.

Cool Edit was very finicky with many plug-ins.

I have the Platinum bundle. If you can't reproduce the problem (it is
most evident on voice - somebody speaking) with either Nuendo or
Wavelab, it would be useful if you could try in CEP, to see if that is
the problem. I'm using Direct X 9.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm processing stereo, so I will put in a
couple of extra tracks and bounce to those. I'm using 2.0 as well.

Thanks, Opus - just tried in Sound Forge, and it works as it should -
clearly a CEP problem.

It might be worth upgrading to a newer version as one of the new
features of 2.1 was improved DirectX plug-in handling. I would guess
that these improvements are also in Adobe Audition which is free to CEP
2.1 owners.

Cheers.

James.

Don't think I really want to upgrade a product of dubious support
right now. But between Sound Forge and CEP I think I have it covered.

From what I've seen on the Audition forum, Adobe seem to be supporting
Audition. The upgrade should be free if you already have CEP 2.0 so I
see no reason not to try it - especially as one of the fixes between 2.0
and 2.1 was improved plug-in handling. Audition and CEP can co-exist on
the same computer so you should have no problem going back to the old
version if, for some reason, Audition doesn't work for you.

Cheers.

James.

Hadn't realised the upgrade was free. Guess I will wait a while though
to see how Adobe really deal with Audition.

I downloaded the update and obtained a serial number although I haven't
installed it yet. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss out if
Adobe changed their minds.

Cheers.
