It doesn't matter really if it's an athlon, or P4...
the fastest computer the better results... of course lot of RAM will help
you. But to samplitude I suggest to buy a creamware hardware with DSPs.
(Luna, Pulsar). Samplitude works on it perfect...

If you've already got Samplitude, you can register it online and gain access
to the forums at www.samplitude.com and go to the support area, there is a
recommended system put together by Norman, one of the SamDev team...

If you havent got it yet, you could check the RME website for details -
their recommmended systems seem to be pretty solid benchmarks, and the Samp
developers use RME hardware, so it seems to be a solid bet...

Good luck

do you mean Samplitude? not trying to be picky, but if you are
building your entire recording setup around a particular piece of
software, it would make sense to know how to spell it.

That IS being picky. English isn't necessarily the primary language amongst
us, and moreso amongst Samplitude users. Typing English has to be even
harder.

As always these days, a little late to the party, but...

I'd go look at Tomshardware.com and check out some of the results that were
posted for the new Athlon 64 chips, along with the P4 Extended Edition.
Were I to be upgrading at this point I'd be hard put to come up with the
extra cash, but the 64 bit Athlon looks pretty good, particularly because it
runs 32 bit code so well and is ready when Windows 64 comes out. We ARE
talking about a premium price, though, so one could then look at the Athlon
3200+ and it suddenly becomes a viable alternative. You're also not talking
about a premium price for memory as one would when talking about the 800 mHz
memory bus of the 64 bit chips.

Then there's the possible chipset problems, but RME always seems to have the
least compatibility issues. Since you don't mention having specific
equipment right now, it's much easier to configure a system from scratch,
and I've seen no problems with Samplitude in terms of working well with
cards, if you don't want to take into consideration MOTU's lack of real WDM
drivers (they kinda emulate them via MME and then you have to check a "use
WDM 24/32 bit compatibility mode). And MOTU has problems with VIA chipsets
(except the KT133/A chipsets and those are old now).

But, Samplitude 7.0X works great under XP, so the best computer you can buy
that runs XP with as much memory as possible, and ATA Serial if you can
spring for it, should do you fine.

Purchase your copy of the Fifth of RAP CD set at www.recaudiopro.net.
See how far $20 really goes.
