I have been trying all day to get some MIDI sounds out of my computer. I've
been recording into cubase and everything seems fine, MIDI in and out meters
light up and it looks like cubase is recording something, but when I try to
play it back I get nothing. Ack! Heeeeeelp!! This is so frustrating! I can
play MIDI files in quicktime, so my midi drivers must be fine, right? Do I
need to setup VST or assign some instruments or ??? Audio works just fine, I
can record and playback thru my mic no problem! All help is GREATLY
appreciated!! Thanks!!

I do not know which version of cubase you use, but in cubase vst 5 you
have to assign the midi output of each track.

You have option boxes to the right of record/mute/ button on each
track.Scroll to the right until you see an option box for midi output.

You can click there and assign to all available midi, vsti outputs.

If you want to get serious about Cubase and you're using Cubase SX, I highly
recommend a book called Visual Quickstart Guide Cubase for Macintosh and
Windows by Thad Brown. Extremely well thought out and illustrated guide on
*how to*. The currently available issue goes to v1.0.6. There is a revision
coming out very soon covering v2.0

I tried this and it worked! Muchos gracias! I can't thankyou enough!
Unfortunately when I try to utilize MIDI throughput in real time there is a
lot of lag so I can't really use it for live stuff but it will be great to
play around with for recording! Thanks again!!

You may be able to adjust the buffer settings for your audio card in
preferences. If your soundcard has an asio setting, you can drop the
buffer setting lower to get lower latency.

I can get mine down to about 10 milliseconds, which is ok for me to
track keyboard parts. It will depend on what soundcard you have, and
the drivers that come with it.
