I have an 828 MkII (not the first one of course) and downloaded their zip
file called MOTU_Audio_Installer-Win-100920. It's worked fine on my
Win7 /64 system so far. The improved Cuemix is nice, too.

Here is their compatibility statement from the included 'read me' file:

MOTU FireWire and USB audio interfaces, PCI-424 audio systems, and USB MIDI
interfaces are compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7,
Vista, and XP. The driver installer program will detect whether you are
using a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows and install the appropriate
software.

The drivers included in this installer package feature WaveRT support, a
legacy Wave audio driver for older programs, and ASIO 2.0 support. (The
MicroBook driver features Wave and ASIO support only.)

Try that one and see if it works for you.

david

And it has been updated since, March 2011 is the latest 64-bit FW driver.

David,
Thanks for the reply. I found the MOTU_Audio_Installer-Win-100920 zip file
on a website (Motu does not archive old install files). It worked! (
Well, it played a couple of short demo songs with audio).

Thank you - I just saved a few thousand dollars!!! Ha - I haven't been
this excited since I got Windows 7 to print from Sibelius....

FWIW, I did try the current FW Audio_Installer and I had some problems ( a
few "Unknown errors" - which I guess relates to firmware updates?).

I know this is all ancient h/w I'm using - it's about 9 years old. But I'm
a poor musican and to get some more life out of this h/w is great.
Otherwise it would have gone into the garbage bin!

Regards,
bruce

MOTU also has a nice repair /replacement fee for those units that's $99.00,
too. I just had to get my 828mkII repaired, they replaced it, and I've
been very pleased with them. That saved a lot of money, too.

I'll consider you lucky then. As far as I can tell MOTU doesn't have a lot
of interest in the Windows market judging by how ****-poor their support has
been for newer versions of the OS. When I finlly get around to replacing my
interface it won't be with another MOTU.

I'll agree first and foremost that it would probably be happier with a Mac.
I have the impression that their development resources may be limited.
I've really had no problems with the 64 bit driver yet under Win7. The 32
bit driver used to be glitchy under XP if I ran concurrent pgms (ie., Vegas
with Media Player, etc), but I haven't had that experience with the 64 bit
MOTU drivers.
