Which DAWs have motorized AND touch sensitive faders?
I never did see the need for a fader that you couldn't realtime
overwrite.
Thanks

These days most people think of a DAW as a computer and software. I
haven't yet seen a computer with faders that I didn't like. <g>
If you mean DAW like an integrated recorder/mixer, there maybe some high
end ones still around that have moving faders and some sort of
touch-write control. Maybe something from Akai is affordable. There are
several control surfaces for a computer DAW that offer moving touch
sensitive faders.
Just what are you looking for? Or are you just musing or compulaining?

What is a "touch sensitive fader" in the context of mixing and why would
one want it?

Ya know, I was thinking ahead of typing there and left a few things
out... Yes I want to know which interface will work with a daw (as in
Mac with software). I want faders that have touch sensitivity on them
so you can write and rewrite on the fly. I've used some yamaha boards
like the promix but non of them work on the rewrite without all kinds
of head aches.

For instance, the promix will follow the midi code on a mix and you
can run the fader up and down on a write but once you have a volume
line written, you can't rewrite over it on the fly. They faders want
to fight you. You have to turn the mix off while you write a new line.
The idea would be to mix the tune and then be able to slightly tweak
it here and there as you go. If I have to do a perfect mix I might as
well go back to analog. If I have to fine tune it with a mouse I might
as well stay in the box.
As I understand it, there are some cheap control units that do this
but I can't find them. Saying something is motorized doesn't mean
much. Behringer has a motorized fader box but besides running a bit
like the quarter bed ride in a sleazy motel, and of course besides
being behringer, I don't think it does much for a real mix.
Short of hitting the lotto and buying an SSL I was hoping I could find
something that would do the trick. What I really need is a 12 year old
to help me learn this crap once and for all :-)

It's used to write fader (volume) automation data. Normally it's in the
"read" mode and the fader moves to reflect the volume of the track in
the mix. When you touch it, it goes into "write" or "update" mode, and,
when you move the fader, the automation remembers the moves.
Most DAW controllers are actually motion sensitive rather than actually
touch sensitive. You actually have to move the fader a little (against
the motor) for it to enter the write mode.

A Yamaha DM2000 using the Remote Fader layer as a ProTools controller.
The 01V96 and the DM1000 might be the same.

Those boards are a bit pricy to solve a moving fader to DAW issue. The
Tascam US2400 was more of what I had in mind but those are not
available anymore and there is no replacement. I don't know how
reliable they were. I heard rumors that they broke down but I have
never used one other then in a music store one time, a long time ago.
