I think his fame came from something other than engineering ;>
Dead @ 76 from a car crash in the land down under.

Loved this quote from the really good latimes article:
"I remember the first time I took acid and walked outside," he told
Rolling Stone in 2007, "and the cars were kissing the parking meters."
Perhaps he partook of his own product a bit too much?:
"Stanley relocated to Australia because he believed it was the safest
place to avoid a new ice age. He was a fanatical carnivore who once said
that eating broccoli may have contributed to a heart attack several
years ago."

One in the same. If anything, this sad news demonstrates that you can't
cheat death...

I heard the Post Office was talking about issuing a commemorative Owsley
stamp. They aren't sure if it should come in 300mcg or 600mcg denominations
though.

I'm guessing it will come in only the type you have to lick to get to
work.. I still remember the summer of the mickey mouse blotter
in our part of the world.. barely... It's been a long time since I've
ever laughed so hard and for so long!!

I think he's goofy about the broccoli, but when Earth moves from one
period of relative climate stasis to another, in between it slams from
one extreme to the other. Warming takes time, but ice ages can whip into
gear very rapidly. We'd just get to the end of July with snow still on
the ground, and it'd start snowing heavily in August. Within a couple of
years the game is fully on.

The fallacy here is that the region around the South Pole would be immune to
the global weather conditons that led to the formation of a large ice cap
around the North Pole.

I have some wonderful memores of "riding with Owsley". Broke me right
out of a very narrow view of so-called "reality".

Mr Soul
March 17th 11, 04:18 PM
- I didn't know this:
"The band’s first performance using the system, at Stanford
University's Roscoe Maples Pavilion on February 9, 1973, was a
disaster (every tweeter blew during the first song). "
I wonder how they managed this one.
I know that we've discussed the Wall of Sound either here or on
alt.guitar.amps but I personally thought it sounded terrible (plus it
ended up being a bad idea in the end anyways).

No one even noticed until the blotter wore off during the 6th encore.

A post in memorium to those who tripped out and never came back.
Including, I suspect, Owsley himself.

I think it comes from listening to too much "Dead" music. Although, "Ripple"
was pretty good.......
