View Full Version : Anybody have audio files of American half-mile oval race car group noise?

I've been asked to create a field of sound simulating race track car
group noise for observation and auditioning at some distance where the SPL
is diverged to about 60 dBA. The goal is to present the sound as heard by
neighbors a few hundred feet distance from the track.

State-of-the-art speakers should do, but I don't have the source audio
media to create the timbre of a realistic soundscape... The venue of
recording should be at a short distance from the track if possible to
represent what an observer some distance away (not in the stands up-front)
hears. Two stages are desired; one is the initial blast, all in unison as
the white flag is waved, lasting about five to ten seconds. The second is
the more uniform round-and-round sound. As to the "Class", both large and
small are desirable, but I should know what they are...

Anybody?

Thanks,

Ange

doubt there are any recording from outside the tracks but check you tube ,
there ought be lots of race footage
you also did not state which cars
the super modified, modified,,stock, super stock, nascar, indy, dirt,
pavement, midget, unlimited each is unique with the Modified being esp noisy
if you had asked earlier this year I could have collected anything you
wanted as we have everything within 30 miles of us

How many channels and how do you want it miked?

My guess is that most of the standard library recordings are going to be
much too closely-miked, but you could ask the NASCAR and F-1 media people.

You should know it will also depend a lot on what kind of cars they are...
NASCAR engines don't sound anything like funny car engines...

I could probably record near a local track if you get desperate.

Wow, Nice selection.

I picked a 2002 Corvette C5 on-board recording... Nothing like getting
it from the horses's mouth..

I think I'll clip it and loop it to smulate a race..
