OK. I'm looking for a "boom-box," an all-in-one, self-contained player
for an iPod, but it has to be reasonably high quality. I have tried a
number of searches but they all come up empty. What's out there that is
worth considering?

Here is a Bose speaker Ipod dock that is suppose to be really good. It
sells for $460.00 US

Have you actually heard it? My experience with Bose has been pretty
negative but I wouldn't write it off out-of-hand.

There is also a B&W unit that is supposed to be pretty good. Has
anybody heard that one?

For comparison, my home system is Apogee Divas, Classe amps and Preamp,
VPI Super Scoutmaster and I am in the process of setting up iTunes on my
Mac as a CD music server via Apple TV. I want to stream audio to my
iPod from iTunes and have it play in various locations throughout the
house. I don't expect it to be as good as my main system, but I want it
to be as good as reasonably possible.

There's the Meridian Ferrari system, but it might be pricy:

I see that there are also cheaper models.

It's easier to find the B&W Zeppelin at Apple Stores:
