View Full Version : Problem w/ DI Recording in Pro Tools

I want to record my bass (DI) w/ Pro Tools. First I created a Mono
Track. I made sure the input was A1. On the MBox2, I selected the "Mono"
button and the "DI" button. I plugged the Bass (which is going through a
Sans Amp) into the DI input on "Input 1." When I click the Record button
in Pro Tools, the meter instantly jumps 3/4 the way up and stays there;
when recording the wave form is a constant rectangle. I can hear the
bass properly, but nothing records. I also tried bypassing the SansAmp
and going directly in with the Bass, but got the same results. What am I
doing wrong? Please help!
Thanks,

Hmmm. What OS? What is the output of that track on? Any chance you
have something else causing the master output to be fed back to that
input? If you create a new session file, with nothing in it, and do
the same what happens?

If you're talking about the SansAmp Bass Driver DI, try using the xlr
output of the Sansamp and plug your mic cable into the mic input on the
Mbox. And make sure the Mbox is feeding +48v.

I created a new session and it worked fine (I just plugged the bass
directly into the MBox2 DI input). Also, when I reopened the session I
was having the problem in it worked fine!

I'm using the original SansAmp pedal (they call it the "Classic" now). I
haven't tried recording with it yet, but since the glitch got worked out
I assume stick with the DI route. That would be the optimal way of
hooking it up, right? If I do decide to experiment with the mic input,
does my SansAmp pedal need phantom power?
I'm running PT 7.3 LE on Mac OS X 10.5.8. I was told by Digidesign that
the two aren't compatible, but it's working fine for me.. except some
plug-ins. It's odd, because I haven't used PT for almost 6-7 months, and
during that time all my plug-in were working. Ever since I've starting
using PT again, some don't show up anymore (i.e. Fairchild 670). I still
have the Fairchild 670.dpm file (in the plug-in folder), as well as it's
license on my iLok, but it remains missing from the Audio Suite menu,
and as a stereo track insert; I haven't changed anything during my PT
hiatus..
I also have one more quick question.. before I learned about the
compatibility issue, I tried installing the Classing Compressor bundle
as well as an old Fairchild 660 installer (by mistake; I thought it was
the 670). Now everytime I launch PT, I get four authorization prompts!
The first is for Classic Compressors, then two pop-ups in a row for the
660 and finally the Classic Compressors again. Is there some kind of
uninstall that will free me from this nuisance?
I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
-Adam

Go to Library/Application Support/
Digidesign/Plug-Ins - drag the offending plug ins to the trash (or
delete them you know what I mean), don't empty the trash.
Start Pro Tools, the authorisation prompts should have disappeared.
