VocoPro UHF-8800

Has anybody here tried this, or have any general opinions on VocoPro's
UHF wireless systems?
I saw this listed in a catalog, and it seems to offer a lot of bang
for fairly short bucks; and it could be very handy in my TV studio.
Any comments?

Nobody responded to this, but I got a chance to try this system. A
short review.

First of all, it turns out that VocoPro's products are designed for
the Karaoke market. Not necessarily a deal-breaker, but surely a
matter of concern. The receiver is solidly constructed, with 8
individual XLR outs and two mixed 4-channel 1/4" outs, and external AC-
DC adapter, in a light metal carry case. The handhelds are fairly
solid, but not as heavy as we expect from pro mic-transmitters. Power
to all mics is via 2-AA batteries.

The quality of the sound and transmission is not bad. The mics are
just a wee-bit needy of some extra high-end. The transmission is very
good. With the receiver indoors, I could walk around my neighborhood
and down the street (to about 200ft) with only occasional dropouts.
The batteries lasted in the mic about 3-4 hours before becoming weak.

The optional accessory transmitter/lavalier/headset mics were a bit
flimsier and lighter, with a hard-to-use lav clip. With these, I got a
few more dropouts, less distance (about 125ft) and about an hour less
useful battery life.

I got a chance to try this system on a college production, and the
everything worked well for both a playlet and music, in a more
contained environment.

Overall: Not really pro stuff, but not bad for a knockaround 8-mic
wireless system for around $700.
