View Full Version : Copying one channel to another

I've got some one-channel mono WAVs that I'd like to alter so the
sound will play on both channels of my stereo. I'm trying to create
two-channel mono.

Right now, the audio is on the left channel, with nothing on the right
channel. How would I create an identical right channel? I'll burn the
finished files to CD.

I was hoping Goldwave would offer an option that would allow me to
just grab a channel and copy it over. But that doesn't seem to be
available.

Bob,

That's a pretty simple task I'd expect even the most basic editor to handle.
But I use SoundForge, not GoldWave, so I don't know what GW can do.

Have you tried to burn the mono file to a CD? Most CD burning programs will
convert to stereo as needed automatically.

Actually, it doesn't sound like that IS a mono file. A mono file will play
on both sides of your stereo. It sounds like you have a stereo file with
audio only on the left channel!
So, In Sound Forge...simply highlight the left channel and drag to the right
channel. See if that works in Goldwave.

Thanks, folks. The solution was simply to save the one-channel 16-bit
stereo file as a 16-bit mono file.

I appreciate the input.
