Hi everyone,

I have a G4 Powerbook.

I just plugged my "headphones" line into my "line in" plug on the
computer (using mini male/male cord)
I've plugged my headphones into the headphone plug on the computer.

In OS 9's sound panel, I click "get levels" and "listen to audio
through output device" and everything is fine: I hear my audio, I see
my levels.

Then, I open up ProTools, make a new track, press Audio 1, press Rec,
hit the space bar to record and no sound waves appear.

Any suggestions? Do I need to configure something in ProToolsFree?

Thanks!
Jade

Are you trying to play back from a Minidisc deck and capture that sound on
your computer?

Be aware that the USB connection from a Network-compatible MD unit only works
one way: FROM the computer TO the MD recorder.

The only way to go FROM minidisc TO the recorder is to use an analog
connection, or get an MD deck with a standard S/PDIF connection (Toslink or
Coax) and hose it in as a digital signal. (Note that there are also pro MD
units that have AES/EBU connection, but those are somewhat rare.)

I transfer from MD to ProTools all the time, and it's easy, but it has to be
done manually. In some cases, there may be copy-protection issues -- for
example, if you have a Minidisc copy of a CD, there may be problems copying
that disc to another disc. But you should be able to bring it into ProTools
with no problem.
