For those not familiar with RoHS, it is a program that has outlawed
certain "hazardous substances" in consumer electronics, such as lead.
That's by fer the most significant impact of this legislation.

RoHS may make sense for cell phones and throwaway electronics but it
is inimical to making products that are intended to last and be fixed.
Accordingly, avionics, medical electronics and server computers are
exempt, but since high end audio is technically "consumer electronics"
it is not. Interestingly, professional and MI equipment is also not
exempt even though it is technically revenue equipment.

RoHS is a curse on high end audio and RoHS compliant units are at a
disadvantage over those using traditional materials.
