Hi!
I'm looking for an IC or similar (simple) solution to read SMPTE
(audio) Timcode.
I want to translate it to MIDI-Timecode. The letter part is possible
with a microcontroller.
But the audio reading part is not.
Is there such an IC?
Thanks Thomas

There are quite a few.. a Google search with the words:
SMPTE "integrated circuit"
will take you to National Semiconductor and a host of others.

It's FSK. You can do it with a tone decoder chip, or with one of the
cheap FSK decoders that 300 baud modems used.

I've used the ICS2008A from Integrated Circuit Systems to read SMPTE for
professional products with great results.
For the microcontroller and MIDI part, I invite you to check out my
Urge To Merge project at http://www.gv.net/~mkesti This site includes
full schematics and source code for an 8051-based MIDI merger/processor/
interfacer. I have several units of the UtomM prototype build that are
for sale and that would serve very well as the basis of your project, as
you would only have to wire the ICS2008 to the UtoM's expansion buss
connector and provide the baseband SMPTE I/O. I am also available, on
a contract basis, to do this kind of work for anybody who is interested.
