The biz is being forced to change. There is no longer a monopoly on
access to the product of the artists. The fat will be trimmed at the top,
the bean counters and fad gurus trying to invent the next trash sound and
group and sex kitten. It's the price stupid! The real threat is real
priracy,ie. where cd's are duplicated for sale, especially in 3rd world
countries and increasingly here. Read and weep biz greedos:

I think the disappearance of physical media will greatly reduce the fun of
producing and buying music. The artwork that goes with albums and CDs is
almost as much a part of the musical experience as the music itself. I will
never enjoy downloading as much as reading a CD booklet while the music plays.
(In fact the only music I've ever downloaded is independent stuff people put up
on their own web sites.) Sure, some kind of video package may be introduced to
replace the printed booklet, but you will be tethered to your computer. I
think there's value added in physical media and I bet we're not going to see
that disappear just yet.

I don't see why they couldn't include a printable document in the download,
so you could enjoy the artwork, lyrics, recording info, etc while the
downloaded music is playing.

Who says you have to do all that? You're thinking old school. Remember, if
there's no more CD's, etc...what would you be cutting and double side
printing for? It could easily be done with a well thought out template.
And, the file size could be really small too.

So I'm locked in front of my computer to listen to music, because there
are no more CD's? Whaddafuk?? How many album covers can I stick on an
iPod?

LOL. I hear ya. How knows...as computers become smaller, more powerful, and
integrated into every little crevice of our society, it may make more sense
and not feel so restrictive as time goes on. I dunno...
