Call NRS in Brooklyn 800-538-2336. Excellent service.
I get my orders from them next day with regular UPS ground.

Tape Warehouse probably has some in stock. What width?

If you want 1" or 1/4", I might have some.

I need two inch. NRS is out. I bought all but their last three reels in
June. I should have taken everything.

Nobody has yet explained to me what has really happened... I just keep
hearing rumors on either side. EMTEC's German distribution division
went under, which is not a big deal. SOME of their tape production
facilities and holdings were sold, some weren't, nobody really seems to
know which.

In the meantime, the supply of 468 seems to be holding steady and I have
not seen any shortages.

I did just find a case of 2" 900 in the closet, though, that is only a
month or so old, and I'm not going to use it. I found it a little bit
too late for the original poster but I'll still gladly sell it if anyone
wants it. It's enough for a small project or two.

So, are we going to get all those goofy European types that Emtec didn't
want to import? Like the red-oxide broadcast tapes, or the tapes with
the white backcoating you can write on with a sharpie?

Funny...I saw this topic discussed before, and I remember thinking
that EMTEC/BASF tape always smellled better! Well, to each their own.
But hey, everyone knows that a better-smelling tape is a
better-sounding tape...right?? :-)

Anyway, John Hardy, thanks for the link! I really really really hope
it turns out that I can get EMTEC again soon.

What I heard on the 'net and from my suppliers (Tape Services of NH)
is that EMTEC simply went bankrupt, then were to be liquidated, and
that the machines that make the stuff were being sold off. Everything
seemed to imply that that's all she wrote! But hey, if the machines
were bought for the purpose of continuing production...

I should be receiving a roll each of 1/4", 1/2", 1" and 2"
Emtec 900 (10.5" reels) today or tomorrow. I had to contact
two different dealers to get all of it. I won't mention who
they are until I actually receive the tape though! I looked
around on the Internet, probably doing a Google search for
"Emtec tape" or something, to find various dealers.

Silly putty, wow, acctually I've found that some of the EMTEC tape smells
very metallic. Almost unpleasant. But I do have a reel of 3M 226 that
smells identical to 456. I wonder if this means the formulations are
similar?

I just ran downstairs to sniff my EMTEC tapes and by God they DO smell like
silly putty. Wow...

Do you think its possible to gauge formulations by how they smell?

Yeah, that's what I did, and I think I bought up the last few reels of
1" and 1/2" 911 from one dealer.

I use 911 because my analog machines are what many would call "small
format." If I'd been born 20 years earlier, maybe by now I'd have a
pair of 2" 8-tracks and a 1" half-track...and some John Hardy pres!!
:-) Ah well, I'm very happy with my digital machines, as well as
Quantegy 456. There's just that little something extra that comes from
using both analog and EMTEC. (Not that I've done a whole lot, but
hey...) It's probably placebo effect more than anything else...

911 should be back soon.

But in the meantime, see if you can get 468. On a narrowtrack machine,
you might like it more than 911. It'll require rebiasing, but it's sure
a great-sounding tape. Cheaper than 911 too.
