So I have a Digi 001 with PTLE 6.1 for XP & also trying Nuendo through it
works. Okay so am I hearing a difference? I dunno. I'm not talking about
listening to a big mix, just actually recording a track through the different
software via the same hardware. I've recorded a couple of tracks of Acst gtr,
thru the 001 with both PTLE 6.1 & Nuendo 1.6 leaving the hardware the same(The
Asio Digi Control panel looks identical) I know there's alot of variables like
me moving. I think I do hear a difference or maybe I just have been programmed
into believing one sounds better than the other I dunno.

So what exactly are you trying to test? The rubber hits the road when
you make the software actually sum a bunch of tracks.

Well no, I mean I've heard that argument here for sure & I did try to A/B
that(a very little) but there's too many varaibles for me to screw up on that.
I was just trying to test general warm & quailty of tone recording a track with
the same hardware into the 2 different softwares.
A separate issue...........when you bounce a track in PT........it's real time
correct? In Nuendo it's pretty fast. What exactly is being done?

It's "rendering", and essentially what it's doing is just reading & recording
the data at a faster rate. Similar to what happens when you're burning a CD at
16x (or whatever speed).

I use both as well- primarily Nuendo, and one thing I have never
understood is how Nuendo's mixes can bounce and downconvert faster
than realtime AND sound better to me than a PT mix bounced in realtime
with ten minutes of downconvert time post bounce. I also find that I
don't have to fight the sound of the mix buss in Nuendo the way I did
in PT TDM. Once again, I don't know if it's the bussing or how plugins
are implemented, I just know I like what I hear.
