View Full Version : Edirol UA-5 Latency Question

I'm recording line level guitar signals with my UA-5 using WDM drivers
and I was wondering what latency I should expect. I've only been able
to get it down to 9 msec which is still maddening when you're trying
to play in time with your other tracks.

Has anyone else been able to get any better? I basically stripped my
PC down so that there are not applications contending for CPU resorces
that would affect the ability ot the UA-5/PC to exchange data any
faster.

Any suggestions for reducing the latency further? Why can't it be
zero?!!!

Thanks for your help!

I'm casually curious about this topic too. The Apogee Mini-Me crossed
my radar, which has a USB (as well as AES/EBU and S/PDIF). I wouldn't
"expect" the total round-trip latency of direct monitoring to be, say,
3ms, or even 6ms, but I would [perhaps unrealistically] hope so. If one
requires this sort of low latency, it probably is realistic to consider
that you may well have to forgo the USB interface of the device to
achieve it, and budget for supplemental hardware (e.g. from RME).
